Youth Rec Center Protest:
Open Letter Calls for Action

Dear Community:

I am a 13-year-old girl who lives in the neighborhood and loves to go to the Recreation Center where I feel safe and protected. I've heard things about people having to move in months, or years so this neighborhood can be rebuilt.

Now I hear that the Rec. is supposed to be closing down on February 28, 2003 which means we children don't have long to enjoy our last moments at the Rec. I figure if we are not moving for a while why do we have to close our Recreation Center down? Think about it: if we as a community don't stop our Rec. from closing where will your child be? Hanging on corners, selling drugs, or other things related to that. Mrs. Campbell, Oscar, and Ms. Chew are people I look up to. There are many activities and opportunities offered at the Rec.

I ask if you would like to help to help would you sign your name at the bottom.

Thank you,
Latia Dixon
