Our demands are clear.

1. Under the HOPE 6 plan, we demand that the same number of low income units be rebuilt. The current plan only allows for 140 units of low income hosing to be built. This is a violation of our human rights to affordable housing.

2. We demand a guarantee in writing that all current residents be allowed to return once the HOPE 6 construction is completed. And that the only requirement for re-entry is that you are up to date in your rent payments. Currently the housing authority is planning on using a credit check to determine whether you can come back or not. We emphatically say, "NO!" to credit checks. And judging from our petition, hundreds of residents also say "No" to credit checks.

3. We demand that no resident shall be displaced due to HOPE 6 redevelopment. This means that residents should be relocated to safe and affordable housing, not other public housing. There are numerous vacant properties in the neighborhood and bordering this community that should be used as temporary housing. The current plan has residents moving all over the city to other public housing, this would displace over 400 families either currently living in public housing or on the waiting list.
